Life Threatening Emergencies
In a life threatening emergency such as sudden severe chest pain, severe breathlessness, loss of power in a limb, loss of consciousness or severe bleeding dial 999.
Injuries
The surgery is equipped to treat minor injuries like small cuts and joint sprains. If the injury is more severe or may involve a broken bone then you should attend the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department at the following hospitals:
- County Hospital, Stafford, telephone 01785 230104. Please note this is not a 24 hour service.
- Royal Stoke University Hospital, Stoke on Trent, telephone 01782 715444.
- New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, telephone 01902 307999.
Also in the event of poisoning or overdose the attend A&E
Same day requests
We are not able to accept any same day requests once we reach capacity unless your need is medically urgent for that day.
If you are acutely unwell and need help the same day, your request will be assessed according to the urgency by the senior clinicians who are on call.
You may be asked to attend the other practice rather than your usual one in much the same way as you may attend the Out of Hours Centre or the Walk in Centres in the city, depending on where the urgent appointment is available.
This will be clearly explained to you at the time of booking and guidance on directions will also be given.

If you are feeling unwell and you need medical help, there are a range of services to choose from. Choose the right one will make sure that you get the treatment you need as quickly as possible.
Self care
For treatment of minor illnesses, by combining a well stocked medicine cabinet and plenty of rest.
NHS 111
NHS 111 can help if you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do.
To get help from NHS 111, you can:

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Pharmacist
For advice on common illnesses and the best medicines to treat them.
Your GP
For medical advice, examinations and prescriptions for illnesses you just can’t shake off.
Need help when the surgery is closed?
For life threatening emergencies – such as loss of consciousness or heart attack, you are advised to dial 999 for immediate assistance. NHS Stoke on Trent are responsible for commissioning your care when the practice is closed. If you need help when the surgery is closed you can ring the normal surgery and listen to the recorded message which will give you the relevant numbers to ring.
Alternatively you can ring 111 to be connected to NHS 111.
NHS walk-in centre
For treatment of minor injuries. You can phone the Haywood walk-in centre for advice 01782 673 500 or walk-in without an appointment.
Accident and Emergency
Only use choking, chest pain, loss consciousness, severe blood loss, broken bones, deep wounds or suspected stroke. Accident and Emergency is a very busy department and patients with minor illnesses can overload the department which can have severe consequences for patents who have any of the problems above.
Please use the local Accident and Emergency Unit only if your injuries or illness cannot be safely treated by your local minor injuries centre.
